BEFORE & AFTER: TRANSFORMING A HILLTOP HOME WITH EUROPEAN-INSPIRED ELEGANCE
At Studio Thomas, we thrive when presented with the opportunity to refresh spaces, transforming them into timeless homes. Project No. 040 presented a wonderful chance to work with the young, vibrant European family of a Colorado Avalanche player. This family had purchased a home in Denver’s Hilltop neighborhood, and were looking to renew it, focusing on a modern, functional, stylish space tailored to their lifestyle. We brought the home’s unique features; a leather-tiled fireplace, a floating staircase, and a dividing peninsula, to life through sophisticated incorporation of European-inspired design.
THE RENOVATION
We reimagined the entire home to create a fresh, cohesive look with thoughtful updates and modern functionality. The dated red, small-plank flooring was replaced with wide white oak hardwood flooring, instantly elevating the space, brightening and adding warmth. The staircase was modernized and the light fixture updated throughout the home to complement the sleek new design. The kitchen underwent a facelift with a fresh coat of paint and new hardware, resulting in a polished and cohesive aesthetic. By removing the peninsula bar, we introduced an open layout that seamlessly connected the dining and family rooms, enhancing the connectivity. The leather-tiled fireplace became the home’s grounding centerpiece, standing out beautifully against the bright, airy atmosphere.
DESIGN & FURNITURE
Every design element was selected with a care to reflect the family’s youthful, European style while ensuring timeless elegance:
Color Palette and Textures: Creams, greys, caramels, and deep wine reds were paired with textured boucle and soft linens to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Lounge Room: Designed as a multifunctional space for entertainment and relaxation, this room features a vintage travertine coffee table, a curved sofa, and a custom large-scale art to balance the space’s openness. The family often uses this room for chess, making it a true gathering spot.
Master Bedroom: A custom channeled headboard spans the length of the transform windows, creating a dreamy, restful retreat.
Dining Room: Serving as the central hub of the home, the dining room showcases a custom organic-shaped oak table - the largest piece the woodworker has crafted to date. Behind it, an apothecary-style credenza adds texture and contrast, balancing the room’s light tones.
The transformation of this Hilltop home blends sophistication with youthful energy, offering a modern yet timeless design. By enhancing functionality and embracing thoughtful, European touchstones, we crafted a space where the family can relax, entertain, and feel truly at home. This project provided a reminder of how thoughtful, careful design can refresh a space. At Studio Thomas, every project is a reflection of the people who live there, their stories, and the home that holds the memories they share.
