CLIENT
EXPERIENCE
We know working with an interior design firm can feel exciting, relieving, and maybe uncertain, wondering what the process will be like, how involved you will be, how to entrust the design team, and in the end will your home feel like you? We understand those feelings and want our clients to feel confident in selecting Studio Thomas as their interior designers. Here you'll find the process of working with a bespoke interior design firm, what to expect as a client, and differences in project scopes.
I. ONBOARDING
Phase I features a comprehensive client intake so we get to know you, what you like, and how you want your home to feel. The studio generates an estimation of total design hours, establishes a furniture budget, and conducts a full-site measure if needed (for non new builds). An onboarding meeting happens with you, the design team, your builder, and the architect to establish expectations and introduce the Studio Thomas interior design process.
PHASES
FULL-SCOPE
II. SCHEMATIC DESIGN
Phase II sees concept development built out as we work with your architect and builder to finalize layouts and floor plans and make architectural changes. Concept meeting I happens at the studio to present broad construction concepts, image inspiration, finishes, colors, schemes, and starts to hone in on the overall feel of your home. In this phase, the builder develops budget with input from Studio Thomas, and exterior finishes are developed. Concept meeting II follows to determine exact selections for each room - ceiling details, flooring, door styles, paint colors, tile, and exterior finishes. You can expect to see initial renderings to visualize how rooms will come together. Phase II and III contribute the heaviest amount of design hours to your project.
III. DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
Phase III starts upon confirmation of selections from Phase II. The design team takes your selections and begins full-scope CAD drawing packages. You can expect to see comprehensive renderings of major rooms and vendor bids coming in for plumbing, cabinetry, and appliances. We work with your builder to establish a construction schedule. Once the drawing package is finalized and submitted and construction items are set, our interior design team puts together lighting and furniture presentations. Extensive furniture layouts are customized to the size and scope of your space and include fabric and bespoke furniture tailored to your lifestyle.
IV. PROCESSING
Phase IV is marked by site visits from our interior designers to meet with your builder and a variety of vendors and tradesmen to make best practice and design decisions on your behalf in real time. In this phase, the space is walked and measured for cabinetry, plumbing, electric + lighting, millwork, and other design elements such as wallpaper, bespoke details, and drapery. This is the phase where you will see your site transform from framing and plywood to flooring installed and finished, cabinets installed, tile laid, stonework finished, and the exterior and roofing finished. At this point, you and the design team will determine if you choose to select our curated styling services.
V. INSTALLATION
Phase V involves installation of custom furniture, lighting, mirrors, and art. The design team has an efficient timeline the week of install ensuring all pieces ordered are delivered, inspected, photographed + approved, and then placed in your home according to design plans. You will never have to worry if something will fit because our design team has done extensive drafting and measuring so custom pieces will fit through doorways and match the scale of your home. We work with professional design movers to make the installation as smooth as possible and to protect your finishes in process. We photograph your space at the end of the installation, for our archives and yours, and our designers and stylist will take a tour with you through the completed space. Because the installation process is so hands-off for clients, it's a true joy viewing the space for the first time.
VI. CUSTOMER SERVICE
Phase VI brings you to move-in. Once our installations and walk-thru are done, you are free to move in! Phase VI is about you experiencing your new space and living in your home. We are here to answer any questions you may have and assist with services to seal and protect your high-end textiles to extend their longevity.
